Viajar mientras trabajas se ha convertido en uno de los sueños modernos de mas de uno, incluyéndome a mi misma. Gracias a muchos de los influencers que nos antojan con una vida llena de aventura, alrededor del mundo, sin esperar a jubilarse y ahorrar lo suficiente.
En mi caso puedo contarles que luego de muchos años de matarme trabajando por mínimo 50 horas / 6 días semanales, decidí lanzarme a la aventura y empezar a buscar trabajos online, que me permitieran disfrutar mas y agotarme menos. Y entre una de esas búsquedas, encontré la pagina de Italki, la cual me permitía enseñar mi idioma nativo, sin la necesidad de ser una profesora certificada, así que me anime aplicar y empezar a enseñar en ella.
Hoy puedo contarles que después de mas de 1 año enseñando, hasta ahora mi experiencia ha sido bastante positiva, y aunque no gane fortunas, ha sido de gran ayuda para mis viajes! por lo que pensé seria bueno compartirlo con uds y guiarlos con el paso a paso de como aplicar en ella.
Bueno pero, y que es Italki?
Primero les cuento un poco para los que no conocen, de que se trata Italki. es básicamente una pagina o aplicación online donde puedes enseñar o aprender idiomas y en ella puedes encontrar una gran variedad de profesores, estudiantes, horarios y precios que se adaptan a cualquier presupuesto.
Aunque hay varias aplicaciones que ofrecen servicios similares, Italki sigue siendo una de las mas populares y en mi opinión la mejor para enseñar mientras viajas hasta el momento.
Primero para enseñar español debes checar si el idioma esta abierto para aplicaciones, ya que Italki tiene cierto cupo para profesores por idioma y a veces cierran las listas para evitar mucha competencia, aunque de igual manera siempre hay bastante, sobre todo enseñando Español.
Si al momento de aplicar no hay cupos, no te preocupes, ya que mes a mes lo actualizan y debes estar pendiente. mientras tanto podemos empezar a trabajar en otros pasos que nos van ayudar agilizar aun mas el proceso de aplicación.
Luego debemos elegir que clase de profesor queremos ser y para ello tenemos 2 opciones, Profesor profesional o Tutor de la comunidad, la diferencia es que para ser profesor profesional, vas a necesitar demostrar un titulo o certificación escaneada que muestre tu formación o experiencia profesional mientras que para ser tutor, únicamente necesitas ser hablante nativo o casi nativo y tener una edad mínima de 18 años.
Otro requisito que necesitas para ambas opciones es crear 1 vídeo de presentación de 1-3 minutos. Este video es super importante porque gracias a el nos va ayudar a demostrar mas allá de experiencias, nuestra personalidad, carisma y lo que nos hace tan especiales a la hora de elegirnos como profesores de Español.
Lo mas importante es que hagan un video único, profesional y diferente, donde puedan enganchar al estudiante en los primeros 5 segundos y convencer en mínimo 1 minuto, que eres la persona indicada para lo que ellos buscan.
Una vez tengamos el video, podemos trabajar en nuestra foto, información, descripción de las clases y precios. ( les aconsejo usar como base otros profesores que les sirvan de inspiración, obvio sin copiar exactamente sus descripciones). Traten de escribir de manera profesional, clara y concisa, ya que las personas se aburren de leer largos textos y si tienes algún error ortográfico, no va ser de ayuda.
En cuando a los precios, lastimosamente al inicio es aconsejable poner precios bajos para así atraer a mas estudiantes y crear mas experiencia en tu perfil,
Recuerda siempre pedir de manera amable si pueden darte una reseña al finalizar la lección, ya que esto te va ayudar montón para que tu perfil sea mas atractivo y mas estudiantes reserven contigo.
Tu meta es que durante las primeras 2 semanas que Italki te promociona como nuevo profesor, puedas reunir la mayor cantidad de reseñas y experiencia, ya que luego de esto podrás aumentar un poco mas tus precios.
Para nuestras clases, tenemos la opción de clases individuales o paquetes donde puedes ofrecer algún descuento que atraiga a los estudiantes a comprarlos.
Aquí te muestro como puedes crear una clase, agregando el titulo, una descripción llamativa, el idioma que deseas ensenar, el tiempo de duración por clase, (30, 45, 60 o 90min), si quieres ofrecer paquetes y finalmente eligiendo el precio de cada una de tus opciones. Recuerda que el mínimo es $5usd y el máximo $80usd por clase.
En cuanto a paquetes, te recomiendo dar un poquito mas de descuento, para atraer a los estudiantes a reservar mas clases.
Una vez tenemos nuestro perfil finalizado, estarás listo y podremos empezar a dar clases en la plataforma.
En ella encontraras diferentes tipo de estudiantes, algunos mas interesados en lecciones profesionales y otros mas relajados que buscan únicamente un tutor con el cual charlar de diferentes temas para así practicar su español.
Sea el caso, lo importante es que te sientas cómodo ensenando y ya que hay tantos estudiantes interesados en aprender, de seguro encontraras el que mas se adecue a tu tipo de enseñanza.
Ahora quiero compartirles un poco sobre mi experiencia hasta ahora y es que ha sido muy satisfactoria, aunque debo ser sincera y decirles que no es tan fácil ganar mucho dinero en ella como muchos piensan, al menos no al principio, pero seguro puedes hacer un poco de dinero que te puede ser de ayuda para tus gastos, y poco a poco, dependiendo de tus habilidades, experiencia y disponibilidad. Lo importante es tener paciencia y determinación, puedes lograrlo!
Tambien puedes encontrar otras aplicaciones que ofrecen lo mismo, pero la verdad es que aunque las he checado, no me han gustado, sea por sus altas tasas de comisión por clase o porque aunque ellos si cobren las clases de prueba, a ti no te pagan por ese tiempo que ofreces y esto se presta no solo para perdida de tiempo, si no para tal vez malos ratos con algunas personas.
En cuanto a las malas experiencias, la verdad durante el casi ano que llevo ensenando, no he tenido muchas mas que estudiantes a veces no atendiendo a la clase, por suerte la app te protege y te acredita la suma de la lección a tu bolsillo y 1 par de estudiantes que no estaban interesados en lecciones mas que en alguna relación amorosa y en ese caso simplemente los puedes bloquear y reportar a la app si es que te llegan a hostigar con sus mensajes. pero aparte de eso todo ha sido muy positivo, así que les recomiendo mucho esta aplicación, no solo para hacer dinero si no también para conocer personas de otros países, aprender otras culturas y ampliar mas tu conocimiento y experiencia ensenando nuestro idioma.
Así que finalmente lo dejo a tu criterio, pero en mi caso puedo recomendar sin problema usar Italki y espero esta información les haya sido de ayuda para entender mas el proceso y empezar a ofrecer tus propias lecciones. Buena suerte y nos vemos en la próxima! :)

How to teach languages online on Italki
Traveling while you work has become one of the modern dreams of more than one, including myself. Thanks to many of the influencers who fancied us with a life full of adventure, around the world, without waiting to retire and save enough.
In my case, I can tell you that after many years of killing myself working for at least 50 hours / 6 days a week, I decided to embark on an adventure and start looking for jobs online, which would allow me to enjoy more and exhaust myself less. And among one of those searches, I found the Italki page, which allowed me to teach my native language, without the need to be a certified teacher, so I was encouraged to apply and start teaching on it.
Today I can tell you that after more than 1 year teaching, so far my experience has been quite positive, and although I don't earn fortunes, it has been a great help for my travels! so I thought it would be good to share it with you and guide you step by step on how to apply it.
Well, but what's Italki?
First let me tell you for those who don't know, what Italki is about. It is basically an online page or application where you can teach or learn languages and in it you can find a wide variety of teachers, students, schedules and prices that adapt to any budget.
Although there are several apps that offer similar services, Italki is still one of the most popular and in my opinion the best for teaching on the go so far.
First, to teach any language, you must check if the language is open for applications, since Italki has a certain quota for teachers per language and sometimes they close the lists to avoid a lot of competition, although there is always enough, especially when teaching Spanish or English.
If at the time of applying there are no quotas, do not worry, since they update it month by month and you must be aware. meanwhile we can start working on other steps that will help us streamline the application process even more.
We must choose what kind of teacher we want to be and for this we have 2 options, Professional Teacher or Community Tutor, the difference is that to be a professional teacher, you will need to demonstrate a title or scanned certification that shows your training or professional experience while that to be a tutor, you only need to be a native or near-native speaker and be at least 18 years of age.
Another requirement that you need for both options is to create 1 video presentation of 1-3 minutes. This video is super important because thanks to it it will help us demonstrate beyond our experiences, our personality, charisma and what makes us so special when choosing us as teachers.
The most important thing is that you make a unique, professional and different video, where you can hook the student in the first 5 seconds and convince in at least 1 minute that you are the right person for what they are looking for.
Once we have the edited video, we can work on our photo, information, description of classes and prices. (I advise you to use as a base other teachers that serve as inspiration, obviously without exactly copying their descriptions). also try to write in a professional, clear and concise way, since people get bored of reading long texts and if you have a spelling mistake, it will not help.
Regarding the prices, unfortunately at the beginning it is advisable to put low prices in order to attract more students and create more experience in your profile,
Always remember to ask in a friendly way if they can give you a review at the end of the lesson, since this will help you lots to make your profile more attractive and more students book with you.
Your goal is that during the first 2 weeks that Italki promotes you as a new teacher, you can gather the most reviews and experience, since after this you can increase your prices a little more.
For our classes, we have the option of individual classes or packages where you can offer some discount that attracts students to buy them.
Here I show you how you can create a class, adding the title, a striking description, the language you want to teach, the duration time per class (30, 45, 60 or 90min), if you want to offer packages and finally choosing the price of each of your options. Remember that the minimum is $5usd and the maximum is $80usd per class.
Regarding packages, I recommend giving a little more discount, to attract students to book more classes.
Once we have our profile finished, you will be ready and we can start giving classes on the platform. In it you will find different types of students, some more interested in professional lessons and others more relaxed who are only looking for a tutor with whom to chat about different topics in order to practice their Spanish.
Whatever the case, the important thing is that you feel comfortable teaching and since there are so many students interested in learning, you will surely find the one that best suits your type of teaching.
Now I want to share a little about my experience so far and it is that it has been very satisfactory, although I must be honest and tell you that it is not as easy to earn a lot of money in it as many think, at least not at first, but surely you can do a little of money that can be of help for your expenses, and little by little, depending on your skills, experience and availability. The important thing is to have patience and determination, you can do it!
You can also find other applications, where they offer similar options but the truth is that although I have checked them, I have not liked them, either because of their high commission rates per class or because although they do charge for trial classes, they do not pay you for that time that you offer and this lends itself not only to waste of time, but perhaps to bad times with some people.
As for the bad experiences, the truth is that during the almost year that I have been teaching, I have not had many more than students, sometimes not attending the class, luckily the app protects you and credits the sum of the lesson to your pocket and 1 couple of students who were not interested in lessons other than a love relationship and in that case you can simply block them and report to the app if they harass you with their messages.
but apart from that everything has been very positive, so I highly recommend this application, not only to make money but also to meet people from other countries, learn other cultures and further expand your knowledge and experience teaching our language.
